The Union College men’s and women’s swimming teams placed several members on the Spring 2015 Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), the organization announced recently.

The Bulldog women led the way placing four members on the team as Jule Stein (JR/Stuttgart, Germany), Lara Kaufmann (JR/Schwerte, Germany), Kellianne Holck (JR/Island Lake, Ill. ) and Eliska Melicharova (JR/Upice, Czech Republic) earned first-team honors. The Union men were paced by Aaron Bean (SR/Madisonville, Ky. ) and Torger Torgersen (SO/Cross Plains, Tenn.) on the first-team.

“All of them are very deserving of this elite honor. They have worked very hard in the classroom to keep a very high GPA while also displaying excellence in the pool during the 2014-2015 academic year,” said Union College men’s and women’s swimming head coach Rafael Forti. “It takes dedication and hard work to achieve academic and athletic excellence at the same time. I am very proud of them.”

To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.  Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a “B” time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.

“I am looking forward to them leading our program again both academically and athletically during the upcoming season,” Forti said.

The Bulldogs will open the 2015-2016 season with a dual-meet against Cumberlands (Ky.) on Oct. 17.
