The cause of Thursday, Sept. 10, flood of North Main Street was discovered Tuesday, Sept. 15., when Barbourville Utility Commission employees found a four foot section of collapsed drainage pipe.

“Over the past six months the issue of slow drainage had been getting worse,” Said Barbourville City Mayor David Thompson. “So, the Utility Commission came out to see what the problem was.”

The section of damaged pipe was located in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church on North Main Street. Employees said that the pipe was located using a camera and the problem should be fixed by the end of the day.
