Barbourville Woman’s Study Club Donates $2,000 to Enhance Mini Golf at Historic Site

Posted

The Barbourville Woman’s Study Club has made a generous donation of $2,000 to the Friends of Dr. Thomas Walker State Historic Site, earmarked specifically for upgrades to the site’s beloved putt-putt mini golf course.
The contribution reflects the club’s ongoing commitment to community enrichment and historic preservation. The mini golf course, a favorite among families and visitors to the park, will benefit from much-needed improvements aimed at enhancing both playability and aesthetics.
Club President Dianna Adams shared, “We’re proud to support a space that brings joy to so many and celebrates our local heritage. This donation is part of our mission to invest in projects that make Barbourville a better place to live and visit.”
Park officials expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that the funds will help refurbish worn features, improve landscaping, and possibly introduce new themed elements that tie into the historical significance of Dr. Thomas Walker’s legacy.
The Dr. Thomas Walker State Historic Site, located just outside downtown Barbourville, commemorates the pioneering explorer who built the first cabin in Kentucky in 1750. The site includes a replica of Walker’s cabin, picnic areas, playgrounds, and the seasonal mini golf course that continues to be a highlight for guests of all ages.
