The Dr. Thomas Walker Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, gathered on Saturday, March 21, at 10:00 a.m. at the beautiful Swan House in Barbourville for a meeting filled with fellowship, learning, and a touch of springtime celebration.
In recognition of the National Cherry Blossom Festival held annually in Washington, D.C., members shared information about the festival’s history and its ties to American-Japanese friendship. The program continued with a fun and flavorful theme as members exchanged recipes featuring cherries, participated in a cherry blossom quiz, and enjoyed warm cherry cobbler together. These activities were part of the chapter’s effort to become an official Cherry Blossom Chapter-an honor recognizing engagement with the festival’s cultural and historical significance. Chapter Regent Claudia Greenwood reflected on the day’s theme, saying, “Our chapter loves finding creative ways to learn, celebrate history, and enjoy fellowship. The Cherry Blossom program brought all of that together in such a joyful way.”
In addition to the themed program, the chapter welcomed Knox County Clerk Mike Corey, who provided an informative update on the upcoming May 19 election. Corey discussed key dates, voting procedures, and the importance of civic participation-an especially meaningful topic for DAR members, whose mission includes promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism.
The meeting blended tradition, community engagement, and seasonal celebration, reflecting the chapter’s ongoing commitment to service and learning in Knox County.
