Fog Leads to Hazardous Road Conditions, Accidents

Roadway Temporarily Shut Down, Four Sent to Area Hospitals for Treatment

Early Saturday morning, November 8, 2025, at 5:40am, Knox County Dispatch recieved a call of a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 25E in the vicinity of the Hazel Fork intersection.
Responding under extremely foggy conditions were Knox Deputies Jesse Smith, Thomas Martin, and David Dunn, Barbourville Police Chief Winston Tye and Barbourville Officers, Corbin Police Department, Ambulance Incorporated of Laurel County, Knox County Ambulance, Whitley County EMS, Bailey Switch Fire Department, Corbin Fire Department, and West Knox Fire Department.
The roadway was then shutdown from RECC to the Corbin Bypass.
Among those injured was a pedestrian that exited her vehicle to check for damage and was struck by another vehicle. A total of four patients were transported to area hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Poor visibility due to extreme weather conditions contributed to the collisions. The roadway was reopened at 8:00am.
Sheriff Mike Smith thanks all those involved who worked tirelessly to administer care to the patients and clear the scene safely.
