History Coming Down...

Posted

Demolition of the decaying “Dixon” building at the corner of Knox and Liberty Streets is well underway. Crews from Spirtas Wrecking Company have been on site for going on two weeks as they work to take down the third floor, and the most unstable portion of the structure, by hand.
The remaining second and first-floor demo is expected to begin by the end of the month. The total project is estimated to take up to 12 weeks for completion. The timeline will depend on the weather.
The structure began collapsing in June 2021. No one was injured in the collapse, but a vehicle was destroyed by falling debris, and Liberty Street has been shut off between Daniel Boone Drive and Knox Street since.
