CRESTWOOD — Knox County opened the 11U Softball All-Star State Tournament in dominant fashion Saturday, blanking host South Oldham 10-0 in five innings at Peggy Baker Field.
After three scoreless innings, Knox County broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning before adding four more in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.
Scarlett Williams led the way both in the circle and at the plate. She tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out 10 and walking two over five innings to earn the victory. Offensively, she went 2-for-2 with a triple, an RBI and scored twice.
Lillian Storms delivered the biggest hit of the game, belting a three-run home run while finishing with three RBI. Sophie Caldwell drove in two runs, while Addy Evans scored twice and reached base twice.
Peyton Townsley and Wynter Smith each added a hit and scored a run, Layla Fultz singled and crossed the plate, and Anslee Jones also scored in the victory.
Knox County finished with seven hits and capitalized on aggressive baserunning, stealing nine bases.
Layla Fultz stole three bases, Anslee Jones stole two, while Addy Evans, Scarlett Williams and Wynter Smith each added a stolen base apiece.
The victory advances Knox County to the second round of the state tournament, where it will return to action Sunday at 7 p.m.
The 11U Knox County All-Stars include Scarlett Williams, Sophie Caldwell, Lillian Storms, Peyton Townsley, Wynter Smith, Anslee Jones, Charli Beth Mills, Addy Evans, Layla Fultz, Abby Kate Corey, Sophia Deaton and Allie Foltin.
