CRESTWOOD — Knox County was one strike away from advancing in the winner’s bracket before Washington County rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth inning and added another insurance run to escape with a 7-5 victory Sunday at the 11U Softball All-Star State Tournament.
Knox County carried a 5-4 lead into the final inning, but Washington County delivered when it mattered most, scoring twice with two outs to take a 6-5 advantage before adding one more run to complete the comeback.
Despite the heartbreaking finish, Knox County battled throughout the game.
Scarlett Williams led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored. Sophie Caldwell added a hit and drove in a run while Lillian Storms collected an RBI.
Addy Evans scored twice and singled, while Wynter Smith and Anslee Jones each crossed the plate once.
Williams also turned in a strong effort in the circle, striking out 16 batters over six innings while allowing eight hits and seven runs, only four of which were earned.
The loss drops Knox County into the loser’s bracket, where it will return to action Monday at 2 p.m.
The 11U Knox County All-Stars include Scarlett Williams, Sophie Caldwell, Lillian Storms, Peyton Townsley, Wynter Smith, Anslee Jones, Charli Beth Mills, Addy Evans, Layla Fultz, Abby Kate Corey, Sophia Deaton and Allie Foltin.
