Knox County 8U Opens State Tournament Saturday in Richmond

RICHMOND — Fresh off capturing the District 4 championship, Knox County will begin its quest for a Kentucky 8U State Tournament title this weekend when play gets underway Saturday in Richmond.
Knox County is one of 13 teams in the state field and will open tournament play Saturday at noon against the winner of Christian County and Valley Sports at Owen Field.
The District 4 champions are positioned in the upper portion of the double-elimination bracket.
A victory would send Knox County into the winner’s bracket quarterfinals Sunday at 4 p.m. at McDonald’s Field.
The bracket also features Hazard-Perry, North Oldham, Eastern, Valley Sports, Ashland, Washington County, South Central, Russell Flatwoods, Bluegrass, Morgan County and Adair County.
The tournament will continue through Tuesday, July 14, with the championship game scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Revel Field.
If the team advancing through the loser’s bracket defeats the unbeaten finalist in the championship, a winner-take-all “if necessary” game will determine the state champion.
