BARBOURVILLE — Knox County saw its postseason run come to an end Tuesday despite building an early three-run lead, as South Laurel rallied for a 9-6 victory in the opening round of the loser’s bracket at the District 4 10U Baseball Final Four at Peggy Baker Field.
After scoring twice in the opening inning, Knox County added three more runs in the second to grab a 5-2 advantage.
South Laurel answered with two runs in the first but was held in check over the next two innings before putting together the game’s final rally.
South Laurel erupted for six runs in the fourth inning to erase the deficit and take an 8-6 lead, then added an insurance run in the fifth to complete the comeback.
Spencer Sanborn led Knox County at the plate with a pair of hits and an RBI. Luca Shaw, Tremayne James and Blevin Priest each added a hit. Shaw also drove in a run, while Charles Michael Blevins and Peyton James each collected an RBI. Tremayne James scored twice and stole two bases, with Shaw and Priest also recording stolen bases.
On the mound, Griffin Butler got the start and struck out five over two innings. Tremayne James worked 1.1 innings and fanned three, Ashton Smith pitched two-thirds of an inning, and Logan Gibson closed out the final two innings with four strikeouts.
