The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of an upcoming traffic pattern change at the intersection of Knox Street (KY 2421) and Liberty Street in Barbourville.
Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 18, Liberty Street is scheduled to reopen to traffic. As part of the new traffic pattern, the traffic signal previously located at the intersection will not be reinstalled. Instead, the intersection will operate as an all-way stop.
Knox Street will continue to accommodate two-way traffic, while Liberty Street will operate as a one-way street for northbound traffic only.
Changes will also be made to on-street parking in the area to provide adequate sight distance and clear zones for vehicles making turning movements through the intersection.
Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling through the area and to pay close attention to new signage and the revised traffic pattern as drivers become accustomed to the changes.
The work is weather dependent and could be postponed or delayed in the event of unfavorable weather conditions.
