CORBIN — Lynn Camp received its first taste of victory last week against Berea to even its record at 1-1.
The Wildcats faced a 24-9 effort at halftime before rallying to pick up a 30-24 win.
“This was a great win for us,” Mitchell said. “Especially considering our youth and we are thing in numbers.
“We made a lot of mistakes, and trailed 24-8 at halftime, but I tell you what, Conner Mabe had a strip sack for a touchdown and that turned the game around,” he added. “Our guys played their tails off. We can build on this. Our guys came together as a team. They didn’t give it us, we just got after it.”
Lynn Camp will be going up against a Patriot squad that is unbeaten at 2-0 with wins over Jackson County, and Harlan.
Knott Central handed Harlan a 43-32 loss while defeating the Generals last week, 42-12.
The Patriots have two weapons behind center at the quarterback position in Carson Hall, and Chayse Hendrickson.
Hall has thrown for 84 yards and two touchdowns while Hendrickson has 68 passing yards and one touchdown.
Knott Central possesses a two-head monster in the backfield in Michael Parks, and Zeke Hurley.
Parks leads the team with 318 rushing yards and five touchdowns while Hurley has 187 rushing yards and two scores.
Jaden Amburgey is the Patriots’ main receiving threat. He has four catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
The Patriots have already racked up 14 sacks on the season with Ethan Collins record six of those. Hurley has two sacks along with Travis Collins, and Max Caudill. Wally Holland and Michael Parks both have one sack apiece.
Lynn Camp will counter with an offense averaging 15 points per game. The Wildcats were shut out 55-0 by Jellico, Tenn. to open the season before defeating Berea, 30-24.
Quarterback Josh Jody has thrown for 190 yards and three touchdowns while Christian Hart leads the team with 117 rushing yards. He also has one rushing touchdown while Connor Mabe has a team-best two rushing touchdowns. Mabe leads the team with three receptions, 149 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Blake Partin leads the Wildcats on defense with 17 tackles while Mabe has one sack.
