CRESTWOOD — Knox County’s impressive postseason run came to an end Wednesday as Washington County edged the 11U All-Stars, 2-1, in the loser’s bracket final of the state tournament at Peggy Baker Field.
The loss capped off an outstanding summer for Knox County, which finished third in the state.
Scarlett Williams turned in another dominant performance in the circle despite the loss. Williams allowed just one hit and no earned runs over six innings while striking out 12 and walking one.
Washington County scored both of its runs in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of Knox County miscues. Williams settled in after that, retiring hitters and keeping Knox County within striking distance the rest of the way.
Knox County answered with its lone run in the bottom of the first. Williams doubled and later scored on Lillian Storms’ RBI double, but Washington County held the Lady Patriots scoreless over the final five innings.
Williams and Storms accounted for Knox County’s only two hits with both collecting doubles.
The 11U Knox County All-Star roster includes Scarlett Williams, Sophie Caldwell, Lillian Storms, Peyton Townsley, Wynter Smith, Anslee Jones, Charli Beth Mills, Addy Evans, Layla Fultz, Abby Kate Corey, Sophia Deaton and Allie Foltin.
