Obituary - Hazel M. Elder
Mrs. Hazel Marie “Pat” Elder, 81, of Barbourville, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 6, 2024 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. She was the daughter of the late Johnny P. and Sylvia Davidson Stewart born on April 28, 1942 in Knox County.
Pat was a former factory worker and antique dealer and believed in the Baptist faith. She enjoyed antiques and had a passion for tending flowers and working in her yard. Pat also loved decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas.
On October 6, 1973, she united in marriage with Robert Lee “Bob” Elder, who preceded her in death.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Stewart and Ruby Smith, brothers, Ted, Henry Matt and Pearl Stewart and a son-in-law, Elbert Mills.
Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl Ann Hix of Loveland, OH and Kathy Mills of Barbourville; sisters, Sudie Smith of Barbourville, Doris Patterson of New Albany, IN, Connie Symonds and husband, Steve, of Kendalville, IN and Leona Bluthardt and husband, Ken, of New Baltimore, MI; a brother, Johnny Stewart Jr. and wife, Sue, of Cincinnati, OH; cherished grandchildren, Willard Mills and wife, Joannie, of Barbourville and Elbert Mills and wife, Brittany, of London; great grandchildren, Brayden, John Brayden, Eliana, Jaci Ann and Willa Mills; a special nephew, Ted Stewart; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, April 13 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Don Farmer officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Toby Merida, Jeff Merida, Eric Smith, Alan Townsley and Coby Napier. Honorary bearers will be the staff of American Renal Associates of Pineville.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Saturday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
