School may be out for summer but education never stops for Southeastern Kentucky Community and Technical College.

SEKCTC recently held a ‘Tech and Teens’ camp on their campus in Barbourville.

The Mountain Advocate spoke with Collin Grubb, who serves as the Workforce Development Specialist for the campus who shared details about the camp.

“We are just trying to spread the word of what we have here on campus to local students from anywhere between middle school and high school,” he said. “We have had students from Pineville, Barbourville, Knox Central, and even a few from Corbin.”

“Each day we’ve had different activities that we’ve been trying to complete to get them involved with the school,” he said, adding ““This helps them see what kinds of programs we have to offer as well as what types of jobs are correlated with these programs.”

According to Grubb, the program has been highly successful with over fifty students becoming CPR certified this week as part of the program.

KCEOC has assisted in the program, serving the participating students breakfast and lunch during each day of attendance.

“We plan to do this every year” shared Grubb who added “We want to spread awareness so they where they come to in order to pursue higher education.”
