Obituary - Rev. Joseph "Jay" Fields

Joseph Samuel Fields, age 84, passed away Wednesday morning, July 3, 2024 at Owenton Health and Rehabilitation in Owenton, Kentucky.

Joseph was born in Baughman Kentucky to Fannie Edna Fields and Carter Fields, who preceded him in death. After graduating from Knox Central High School, Joseph served in the U.S. Army before returning home to wed Mary Stacy Mills. Referred to by various names, Joseph would eventually be known by most as Jay, a nickname provided by his wife.

Jay and Stacy spent most of their married life in their home in Girdler, and Girdler is where Joseph would provide loving care to his wife in her final year of life in 2012.

He is survived by two children: Charlotte Fields Elkins and husband Sean Lewis Elkins of Owenton and Joseph Samuel Fields, Jr. and wife Heather Rose Fields and two grandchildren, Cayden Warrick Fields and Holden Aldrick Fields who reside in Navarre, Florida; three brothers: Delmer Fields and Reverend E.C. Fields and wife Charlotte of Bimble, and Herbert Ray Fields and wife Judy of Girdler; sisters-in-law, Molly Fields of Cincinnati, Ohio; Geraldine Fields of Bimble, and Estilene Fields of Lexington as well as many nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death, as did his wife. Also preceding him in death: infant daughter, Angela Fields; two sisters: Louetta Fields and Venus Fields; and brothers: Carter Fields Jr., Johnny Fields, Lester Earl Fields, Walter Fields, Jay Russell Fields, and Marshall Fields.

Pall bearers are Cayden Fields, Scotty Fields, Russell Fields, Terry Fields, Marshall Fields, Jr., Mark Fields, and James Carter Fields. Honorary pall bearers are Tommy Mills, Roger Mills, and Rick Mills.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, July 9 at 3 P.M. with Rev. Dewayne Smith officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Carnes Cemetery with military funeral honors.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday from 6 until 8 P.M. and Tuesday prior to the funeral hour.
