Community mourns passing of 'Buck' Treadway

A man known to many as "Mr. Barbourville City School," long-serving former board chairman Shirley F. "Buck" Treadway, Jr. has passed away. He was 97. Knox Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Treadway served on Barbourville Independent School's Board of Education from 1961 until his retirement in 2016, and he was chairman of the board from 1967 until 2016. The school's new gymnasium, the Treadway Activity Center, was named in his honor upon its construction.
