Victim identified in stabbing death
A man died following an alleged altercation on Tuesday afternoon.
Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan received a call from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 5:37 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30 in regard to a stabbing at a residence on Hwy. 1232 in the Gray community.
During their initial investigation, KSP troopers and detectives found that a physical altercation had occurred between Norman McCreary, who resided at the home, and Eric Hibbard.
Throughout the the course of the altercation, Hibbard is alleged to have brandished a knife and allegedly stabbed McCreary several times in the neck and torso leading to his death.
McCreary, 67, was pronounced deceased by the Knox County Coroner’s Office.
A murder investigation is underway by KSP Detective Andy Soltess.
Hibbard was arrested and charged with murder and was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center where he is being held on a $250,000 cash bond.
The body of the deceased was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy. Assisting agencies at the scene included the Knox County Ambulance Service, Knox County Coroner’s Office, Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Knox County Child Protective Services.
