County, taxing districts lower rates for ‘24-25

by Staff Report

During a special-called meeting of the Knox County Fiscal Court on Friday, October 4, the body approved the 2024 Real Property Tax rates.
Due to an expanded tax base in Knox County, the fiscal court lowered the county’s Real Property Tax rate by a whole percentage point, from 10.9% to 9.9%.
Judge-Executive Mike Mitchell says the decrease was made possible by the expanded tax base, and that the fiscal court acted in the best interest of the citizens of the county in decreasing the rate.
Six additional taxing districts in Knox County also lowered rates, to which Mitchell extended his gratitude. Those districts were:
Knox County Schools 54.1% to 52.9%
Knox County Ambulance Service 5.5% to 5.2%
Knox County Hospital Taxing District 7% to 6%
Knox County Library 8.9% to 8.4%
Knox County Soil Conservation 2.2% to 2.1%
The next regular meeting of the fiscal court will be at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 in the District Courtroom of the Knox County Courthouse.
