‘Knox Opportunity’ christened, ready for use

Several people from Knox County participated in the “People Ready Communities Leadership Program” sponsored by Brushy Fork Leadership Institute, Berea College, Berea, Kentucky.  The community members made a seven-month commitment to grow their leadership skills and complete a hands-on project that would support building a vibrant economy.
The group looked at the program as one small way to improve the quality of life for all in Knox and began with a training at Berea College on March 20-22.  After the project was determined work began and our “Opportunity Knox Pop-Up Shop” transpired with the help of several community partners.  James Robert Smith with KY Fav Works was contracted to remodel the horse trailer.  Roger Stone with Stone’s Pro volunteered his time and talent to paint the trailer, and Angelica Craig-Johnson with Sherwin Williams donated the paint.
Knox Opportunity is available for rent for a cash deposit.  Applications and payment can be made at the Barbourville Tourism Commission Office.
The original committee consisted of Meaghann Chesnut, Kimberly Davis, Marcia Dixon, Amy Floyd, Fernanda Frey, Cat Goguen, Claudia Greenwood, Sheila Halter, Kayla Hubbard, Brenda Moses, Maxine Reid, and Jennifer Travers Skidmore.
They will make a final presentation about the project on Friday, October 18, at Berea College.
