Obituary - Debbie Renfro

Mrs. Debbie Renfro, 74, of Barbourville, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 19, 2024 at Baptist Health Corbin. She was born in Barbourville on August 18, 1950, the daughter of the late Winston and Madeline Thomas Simmons.
Debbie was a former nurse aide with the Knox County Hospital and a faithful member of the St. Paul Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Superintendent, president of the missionary board, a choir member, youth Sunday school teacher and Bible study teacher. She served with Women of Vision, was a Girl Scout leader, Missionary President of the London District Association and served on the Executive Board of the Knox County Democrat Party. Debbie enjoyed being a member of the Knox County Homemakers Club, was an avid UK athletics fan and enjoyed cooking delicious meals for her family and friends.
On June 9, 1972, she united in marriage with Jackie Renfro, who preceded her in death.
Other family members to precede her in death include a daughter, Anita Renfro and a brother, Kevyon “Cool Daddy” Simmons.
Survivors include her loving daughter, Angela Renfro; sisters, Nancy Qualles, Winstine Mays, Laura Woods, Alberta Davis and husband, Leon “Jim”, and Jacquelyn Pryor; a brother, Pastor T. A. Simmons and wife, Mary; a sister-in-law, Linda Simmons; grandchildren, Asante, Deon, Armani, Andrea and husband, Michael, Adam and Tavis; great grandchildren, Avayh Rose-Creekmore, Alonna Rose-Creekmore and Isabella Anthony; an aunt, Lela Potter; a cousin, Anita Riley; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted at the St. Paul Baptist Church Thursday, October 24 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Charles Tinsley officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Rosenwald Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Xavier Gregory, Jermel Carton, Jason Hughes, Jack Rancher, Kevin Simmons, Quinton James and Xeric Griffin. Honorary bearers will be Dr. Bill Vickers, Dr. Tom Ashburn and Rodney Wardlaw.
Friends may visit at the church Thursday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
