Obituary - Edgar Allen King

Mr. Edgar Allen King, 90, of Gray, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 10, 2024 at Baptist Health Corbin. He was born on February 9, 1934 in Knox County to the late Dempsey and Alice Hendrickson King.

Allen was a former coal miner and a member of the Concord Baptist Church.  He enjoyed fishing and antique collecting with a special interest in knife collecting and trading.  He spent years visiting flea markets and shops looking for antiques and pocket knives to buy and sell.  He will be remembered as one of the most knowledgeable knife experts in Kentucky.

He united in marriage with Erma Gibson and to this union three children were born.  Later in life, Allen united in marriage with Hazel Bright King.  When he joined the Bright family, there were five children, Jenne Edwards, Jerry Bright, Rita Martin, the late James Bright and the late Judy Mills and their spouses; grandchildren, Johnna Murray, Jayme Mills, Jennifer Martin, Logan Martin and Landon Martin and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by two sons, David King and Jeff King and wife, Sandy, and siblings, Willie Denver Isles, Reba Mays, Rena Phipps and Earnest Howard King.

Survivors include his loving son, Doug King and wife, Jean, of Tampa, FL; a daughter-in-law, Pam King of Flat Lick; sisters, Mildred Napier of London, Faye Elliott and Geraldine Scalf both of Davis Bend; treasured grandchildren, Jeremy King and wife, Sabrina, Justin King and wife, Samarah, Lakin, Marena and Kelsea King; four great grandchildren, Logan, Lydia, Hayden and Kyson King; among other cherished loved ones and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, November 15 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Dale Phipps and Rev. Jerry Smith officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Davis Cemetery with military funeral honors.

Casket bearers will be Jeremy King, Justin King, Logan King, Franky Gibson, Logan Martin and Landon Martin.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Friday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
