Obituary - Wanda Hibbard

Mrs. Wanda Lou Hibbard, 84, of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday evening, November 13, 2024 at her home.  She was born on February 18, 1940 in Barbourville, the daughter of the late Matt and Pearl Jane Payne Bright.

Wanda was a former employee of Union National Bank and a charter member of the East Barbourville Baptist Church.  Wanda was deeply committed to her faith and found strength in her relationship with God and encouraged others in their daily walk with Him.  She was a loving wife, devoted mother and held a strong love for her family and friends.  After her retirement, she served as a bus monitor with the Knox County Public Schools.  She also loved spending time reading and tending her flowers.

On February 21, 1959, she united in marriage with Eugene “Toby” Hibbard and to this union a daughter was born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Toby Hibbard; siblings, Leon Cole and husband, Homer, and June Delph and husband, Arnold, and a brother-in-law, John McWilliams.

Survivors include her dearly loved daughter, Tammy Farmer of Barbourville; her twin sister, Janet McWilliams of Louisville; a special cousin who was raised as a brother, John Bright and wife, Marilyn, of Virginia; several special nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted at the East Barbourville Baptist Church Tuesday, November 19 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Josh Smith and Rev. James Vandy officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers will be Robert Wyatt, Shane Jacobs, Larry Cottingham, Matt McWilliams, Caleb Melcher and Noah Ansert.  Honorary bearers will be the staff of Bluegrass Hospice Care.

Friends may visit at the church Tuesday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
