Dinky’s Back! Famed head coach returns to lead Wildcats
November 24, 2024
A familiar face will be coaching the Lynn Camp Boys Basketball team in the upcoming 2024-2025 season.
Dinky Phipps, a long-time coach in the 51st district, was selected as interim coach at Lynn Camp as the team prepares for its first regular-season game on December 2.
“I have 38 years of coaching experience,” reflected Phipps.
“I spent 33 years at Barbourville High and was previously the head coach at Lynn Camp for 5 years.”
“This is an incredible opportunity to work with a talented group of kids and I have Mr. Merida and Mr. Canady there to support me and the program.” Having previously coached at Lynn Camp, he said that he looks forward to the challenges ahead and can’t wait to get started.
Phipps said that in 38 years of coaching, there have been wins beyond the scoreboard, as he expects to see 110% effort on the floor and in the classroom.
“I will expect my players to act in a professional manner both in the classroom and on the court.”
That is what makes Phipps coaching and mentoring unique.
“I have never set goals as long as I have been coaching. I just expect kids to give 110% and leave it all on the floor. When the game is over, we will know that we have done our best.”
“I want parents to know that our team will be committed to teamwork, integrity, effort, respect and growth. I believe that success comes from not just athletic ability, but from the character we develop both on and off the court.”
“We are aiming to create an environment where every player can thrive and grow, not only as an athlete but also as a person.”
A healthy Knox County requires great community news.
