Juvenile detained after threat to City School District

On Friday, Barbourville Police Chief Winston Tye released a statement to the agency’s Facebook page concerning a threat involving the Barbourville Independent School District.
Details were sparse, but the case is still under investigation with an official release to follow.
The juvenile responsible for the threat has been detained by the investigating officers, per Tye’s statement.
In a statement posted by Barbourville Independent School District Superintendent Dennis Messer on Friday, he stated:

“Dear Tiger Community,
Last night, our school personnel was informed of a potential threat to a local school district. The proper authorities were immediately contacted, and an investigation was started. The safety of our students is the top priority of our staff and community. The Barbourv ille City Police detained someone in this incident, and the court system will handle the situation. We would like to thank the Barbourville Police Department for their prompt response. We will keep our families informed as we receive more information.”
