Taylor selected for inaugural ‘Teaching Kentucky History Institute’

A Knox County teacher has been named one of the teachers selected for the inaugural 2025 Teaching Kentucky History Institute (TKHI). Knox County native Corri Taylor, who works for Kentucky Virtual Academy, was among 22 teachers chosen for the program.
In July, educators will dedicate five days to an in-depth study of Kentucky’s early history. They will collaborate with academic experts from state universities, receive training in effective instructional strategies, and acquire materials for classroom use. Additionally, the educators will visit historical sites in Kentucky for place-based learning and participate in programs at Blue Licks State Resort Park.
“I am thrilled to have been selected for the 2025 Teaching Kentucky History Institute,” said Taylor. “This opportunity will allow me to deepen my understanding of Kentucky’s rich history, with a focus on indigenous populations, European settlement, and the state’s role in the American Revolution. I look forward to sharing the knowledge and resources I gain from this experience with my school and students.”
According to a press release, “The Teaching Kentucky History Institute is designed to increase participants’ knowledge of Kentucky history with resources and support to bring that content to their classrooms,” said Sarah McIntosh, Director of Learning Services at KHS. “This year’s selected educators will explore topics related to Indigenous populations, European settlement, and Kentucky’s role in the American Revolution in relevance with America250. They will then share their knowledge within their districts to connect more students with Kentucky history.”
Teachers interested in applying for the 2026 Teaching Kentucky History Institute can find information at https://history.ky.gov/teaching-kentucky-history-institute. Applications will be available starting in September and will close in December 2025.
A healthy Knox County requires great community news.
