Man in custody swallows e-cigarette

A man who made an alleged threat against a local retail store continued to rack up charges even after he was incarcerated.
On March 3, the Corbin Police Department responded to a call from the Dollar General Store on Master Street in Corbin. According to the arrest citation, the store manager reported that Jacob Jones entered the store and claimed to know where all the blind spots for cameras were. He allegedly threatened to “rob the store and shoot the people inside.”
After reviewing CCTV footage, officers identified Jones and found a backpack with his name inside, containing some of his clothing. The officer then located Jones across the street, wearing the same clothes. When asked if he had been inside the store, Jones admitted to it, explaining that he had been asking about the cameras in relation to missing children.
During the conversation, the officer noted that Jones was speaking rapidly and mentioning unrelated topics, such as missing children and people doing drugs nearby. The officer observed signs of intoxication and placed Jones under arrest.
Jones was charged with public intoxication and terroristic threatening and was taken to the Knox County Detention Center, where he was held on a $1,000 cash bond.
On March 8, after being lodged in the detention center, the control tower advised deputies that Jones had claimed to have swallowed an e-cigarette. A body scan confirmed the presence of the item, and Jones was transported to Corbin Baptist Health. This led to an additional charge of obstructing governmental operations under KRS 519.020 and a new cash bond of $2,500.
Jones is scheduled to appear in court on April 1.
