Lynn Camp welcomes new head girls basketball coach

by Frank Shelton, KCPS Communications

The Lynn Camp Lady Wildcats basketball program will be seeing a familiar face from Knox County coaching them this year. The school is proud to announce the hiring of Brad Marsee as the new head girls' basketball coach. A seasoned coach in Knox County Public Schools, Marsee brings more than a decade of coaching experience, deep ties to the community, and a clear passion for student-athletes both on and off the court.
“This opportunity was a mix of heart and history,” the new coach shared. “I’ve always respected the Lynn Camp community and the tradition that’s come through this program. I remember when Coach Jones had those strong runs with the Lady Wildcats—tough teams that played with grit and pride. I want to be part of building that kind of energy again.”
With 13 years of coaching experience—on both the girls and boys sides—he brings a well-rounded background shaped by some of the most noted coaches in the region. His experience is wide, including time at Lynn Camp, where he assisted Coach Eric Swords, as well as an assistant to Janet Jones at Barbourville, and a stint at South Laurel under his mentor, Chris Souder. He’s also served as a head coach at Red Bird Christian School and, most recently, at Knox Middle School.
“All of those experiences, the wins, the losses, the relationships—they’ve all led me here,” Marsee said. “I’m ready to lead this program and build something the Lynn Camp community can be proud of.”
His immediate focus for the program? Culture.
“We’re going to be a first-class program in everything we do—from the way we represent the school in the community to the way we practice and compete on the court,” he said. “There won’t be any shortcuts. We’ll do things the right way, with class and purpose.”
“We take in wearing Lynn Camp across our chest with pride, and will all reflect a program that does things the right way, with class and purpose.”
Players can expect a fast-paced, high-effort style of basketball that emphasizes pressure defense, quick transitions, and a team-first mentality. But beyond the Xs and Os, the coach wants to build a foundation that lasts.
“I’m going to challenge them, but I’ll be right there with them every step of the way,” he said. “I care about who these girls are going to be as women, as future leaders, as moms, as professionals—not just as basketball players. If I coach a player for four years and they never come back to visit, then I’ve failed.”
His long-term goals include building a competitive team that consistently fights for championships—especially in the 13th Region All “A” Classic—and returns the program to regional tournament contention.
“We’re going to play hard every possession and make sure Lynn Camp is a name people respect again,” he said.
Off the court, he brings the same dedication to his roles as a husband, father, and educator. He and his wife Sara Jane have two children, and he currently teaches special education while pursuing his Rank 1 in Principalship through the University of the Cumberlands.
“Being a husband and a dad is the most important role I have,” he said. “Everything I do—coaching, teaching, serving—is rooted in doing right by my family and setting a strong example.”
The Lynn Camp community can expect passion, integrity, and a deep commitment to student growth from their new coach.
“I’m honored to be here,” he said. “This is bigger than basketball—it’s about representing our school and community with pride. We’re going to earn everything, and we’re going to do it together. I can’t wait to get to work."
