Knox County Boosts Funding for Senior Centers Amid State Cuts
Knox County Judge-Executive Mike Mitchell presented two $5,000 checks this week to support local senior centers, citing recent reductions in state funding.
The checks were delivered to Shawn Bingham with the Knox County Senior Center and Amber Case with the Corbin Senior Center. The funding, provided through the Knox County Fiscal Court, marks an increase in local support for senior services compared to previous years.
Judge Mitchell said the additional funding is meant to help offset shortfalls and maintain essential programs and services for Knox County’s older residents.
“The services provided by our senior centers are absolutely vital,” said Mitchell. “They offer more than just meals and social activities, they offer connection, and care for a population that has given so much to our communities.”
Both centers have seen cuts in state-level support this year, making local contributions increasingly important. The Fiscal Court’s decision reflects a broader effort to prioritize essential services and support quality of life throughout the county.
