Lay Elementary School receives Kentucky Purple Heart Award
Veterans Day was a doubly special day at Lay Elementary. The entire student body honored our nation’s veterans with a program that also served a dual purpose: to honor the school as well.
In recognition of all the school’s efforts to honor our nation’s soldiers, Lay Elementary was given the Kentucky Purple Star Award. According to kypurplestar.org, “A Purple Star School provides a caring school environment for military-connected students and lets military families know, whether they are on Active Duty, National Guard, Reserves or Veterans, that the school is dedicated to helping their child gain the educational skills necessary to be college-, workforce- and life-ready.”
Lay Elementary is the first school within the eight-county region to receive the prestigious award.
In another special moment, students and family received a message from Principal Keith Broughton, who is currently serving in Kuwait.
