The first administrator of Barbourville ARH Hospital, since it took over the former Knox County Hospital, has announced his retirement.

Charles Lovell, the hospital’s Community CEO, started at the hospital in December 2015, when Appalachian Regional Healthcare leased the facility, marking it as the 11th such hospital to come into the ARH family.

Under Lovell’s leadership, the former Knox County Hospital has gone from once having filed bankruptcy to become a much-needed, local, thriving medical center for Knox County.

For more on Lovell’s time at the hospital and where he sees life taking him, see the April 10 issue of The Mountain Advocate.
