Obituary - Jessie Mills

October 17, 2024

Mr. Jessie “Duke Boy” Mills, 55, of Swan Pond went to his heavenly home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

On the day that he passed, we know he was having a heavenly reunion with big brother, Henry Pete Mills Jr. and his son, Jeremiah Mills.

He was born February 13, 1969, to the late Henry and Maudie Collins Mills.

Jessie spent many years as a foreman for Phillips Tree Experts. Even after his professional career ended, Jessie could always be found in the woods. He enjoyed hunting, digging for roots, looking for rocks, shooting guns, playing pool, taking care of his chickens but most of all, he enjoyed fishing. His pride and joy were his nieces and nephews and being “Uncle Jessie” was his proudest accomplishment in life. His world truly revolved around the Lord and his family and he would give the shirt off his back to anyone that needed it.

Left behind to mourn his passing are his siblings, Brenda Johnson and husband, Sam, Loretta Mills and husband, Darren, Charlie Hobbs and wife, Anna, John and Jimmy Hobbs; nieces he loving called “his girls”, Jada Mills and Barak Williamson and Abigail Mills England and husband, Bryce; a nephew, Jeremy Messer and wife, Amanda; great nieces and nephews, Maddox, Marlee and Mia Messer; special friends, Jamie and Paul Pennington; among other nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, October 6 at 3 P.M. with Rev. Mike Collins and Wayne Mills officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Jeremy Messer, Bryce England, Barak Williamson, Jamie Phipps, Robbie Messer and Curt Brown.  Honorary bearers will be Robert Collins Spohn, Paul Pennington, and Wilbert Bingham.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday after 1 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
