Construction projects continue for Knox Schools

October 31, 2024

Keith Wilburn, construction and project manager for Summit Architects and Engineering, provided the Knox County school board with a report on the district's ongoing projects.
HVAC (heating, ventilation, and cooling) installations continue to be at the forefront at Knox County Middle School and Lynn Camp Middle High School.
At Knox Middle, several areas of the building were near completion as sofit, grids, and final masonry work can be seen in the administration areas, hallways, and gymnasium.  That work is expected to continue for the next three weeks as gas lines and controls for the units are connected and brought online.  Lynn Camp saw the demolition of the remaining heat pumps in the middle school and media center area.  The installation of about thirty new heat pumps have been installed in those areas.  The plans continue to focus on ductwork, piping supply, return, and condensate lines for the new pumps installed.  That means completing as much piping of the new boiler as possible without interfering with the required heating process.
Track projects at Knox Central and Lynn Camp were discussed.  Due to the different statuses and changes in weather seasons, Lynn Camp's track was ready to strip, and final punch list items were being identified.  At Knox Central, it was decided to place the track on hold until next spring - allowing for better weather and a better completed project.
