With winter just around the corner, local United Steelworkers Union 300-11 recently partnered with Next Generation to host a coat drive for children at Lynn Camp Elementary School.
Kimberly Anders with Jackson Warewashing Systems, as well as chairperson of ‘Women of Steel’ of the United Steelworkers, helped organize the event along with Gary Swafford, chairperson of Next Generation.
According to Anders, the goal was to be able to provide 50 coats to be given away. However, the total doubled that number with 100 coats made available for distribution. “We want to show these kids that there are people out here who care and are willing to help,” Anders said of the importance of being able to provide the coats before winter hits.
Swafford was overwhelmed by the generosity, sharing, “this wouldn’t be possible without the generous people we work with.”
Along with contributions made by those at Jackson Warewashing Systems, outside donations were made by Thunder Mountain Speedway, S&S Barber Shop in Barbourville, and Mama Rosa’s in London.
A healthy Knox County requires great community news.
