December 19, 2024
The Barbourville Woman’s Study Club recently made a heartfelt donation to Dance Blue, a University of Kentucky organization dedicated to fighting pediatric cancer, in honor of Charley Greene Dixon, a beloved community pillar who passed away from colon cancer. This touching tribute highlights the enduring legacy of Dixon and the community’s commitment to support vital causes.
Half of the funds for the donation were raised during the October Knox Street Thunder Car Show in Barbourville, which brought together community members in a display of support and camaraderie. Proceeds from the event were matched by the Woman’s Study Club, doubling the impact of the community’s efforts.
Charley Greene Dixon was a shining light in our community, always willing to lend a hand and inspire others,” said Claudia Greenwood a spokesperson for the Woman’s Study Club. This donation is a way for us to honor his memory and contribute to a cause he would deeply care about.”
Dance Blue is a year-long fundraising effort culminating in a 24-hour dance marathon, with proceeds going toward pediatric cancer research and patient support at the University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center. The organization’s work aligns with the Woman’s Study Club’s mission of community service.
The car show featured an array of classic and modern vehicles, drawing enthusiasts and spectators from across the region. Participants and attendees alike express their enthusiasm for supporting such a meaningful cause.
The Woman’s Study Club’s generous matching donation reflects the spirit of giving and unity that defines the Barbourville community.
“Cancer affects everyone, directly or indirectly,” Greenwood added. “By Supporting Dance Blue, we’re not just honoring Charley’s memory- we’re also helping to give children and their families hope for a brighter future.”
This contribution serves as a powerful reminder of the difference communities can make when they come together for a shared purpose. The Barbourville Woman’s Study Club hopes to inspire others to support organizations like Dance Blue in their fight against cancer.
A healthy Knox County requires great community news.
