Floyd named newspaper’s new Advertising Director

by Staff Report

The management of The Mountain Advocate newspaper is excited to announce the promotion of Kasey Morris Floyd to Advertising Director. Since joining the staff over one and a half years ago, Kasey has served as the newspaper’s primary graphic designer and office manager.
“I am excited to watch Kasey spread her wings and take us to the next level,” said Mountain Advocate Publisher Charles Myrick. “Her talents and vision will continue to help improve what we already do, but in keeping with her fresh outlook on media, we look forward to how we better serve our community with advertising and marketing opportunities.”
“As someone who became graphic designer, I remember discussing that aspiration with my hometown folks,” Kasey said. “They always said something to the effect that I would have to move away to a big city to be able to work. It’s been such a funny coincidence that I’ve ended up right back where I started, using my degree to boot.
“Honestly, it’s been such a surprising joy. I’ve fallen back in love with the mountains and this area after years of being away. There’s a beautiful familiarity and a friendly kindness our people exude. I truly want to see the area and businesses thrive. With my new position, my hope is to make more connections with the community and become a resource to support their needs.”
Born and raised in Barbourville, Kasey is a 2010 graduate of Barbourville High School and a 2016 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design. Following graduation from EKU, Kasey worked in graphic design for a label printing company in Lexington before working in graphics and marketing for an internet startup. She began her career with Mountain Advocate Media as its graphic designer and office manager in August 2023.
Hobbies such as thrifting, refinishing and repurposing vintage furniture, cosplay, reading, painting, photography, and embroidery keep her busy on top of parenting and her career. Additionally, she is serving in her first year as a Daniel Boone Festival Committee member.
Kasey is the daughter of Dennis and Hope Morris of Heidrick. She resides in Heidrick with her husband, Nathan, and their children, Faelyn and Declan. Together, they also have two dogs and three cats.
