Dad arrested after four-year-old shoots himself

A child accidentally shot himself and was taken to a Louisville hospital, according to police. Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) responded to Southwest Hospital around 8:07 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 after the child was brought in by private conveyance. He was later transferred to Norton Children’s Hospital and is expected to survive. The shooting is believed to have occurred on Mango Court.
LMPD arrested the child's father, 23-year-old Jacob Mosley. Court documents state that Mosley told police he left the firearm in the nightstand. While he was in the shower, he heard a ‘pop’, and upon exiting, found the child shot in the arm. The child reportedly told police the gun was on the bed.
Mosley was charged with assault-domestic violence, criminal abuse of a child, and wanton endangerment. He remains incarcerated in the Louisville Metro Detention Center as of Thursday, February 20, 2025.
