Getting a head start: Election Board begins early ballot scanning
The Knox County Election Board began the scanning process of absentee ballots on Tuesday, October 22 at the Knox County Courthouse.
Although early votes are scanned, they will not be tallied until after 6 p.m. on election night, per County Clerk Mike Corey.
Roughly 500 early votes are anticipated to be scanned in the evening. All voters were verified for authenticity.
Of the election board, Corey said, “This is a wonderful election board. I know that there are people out there that maybe what they may see on the news, they may question the election process, but that doesn’t happen in Knox County Kentucky. We strive to count every vote and we want every one to count.”
It was announced that a ‘Hand to Eye Audit’ will be performed for one scanner in the Knox County voting district.
This will take place at 9 a.m. on Thursday, November 7 and one race from one of the scanners will be selected by the Kentucky Secretary of State.
Any Knox County citizen is welcome to attend and the audit will take place in the County Clerk’s office in the courthouse.
A healthy Knox County requires great community news.
