Couple arrested for cemetery fence theft

A Woodbine couple have been arrested in charged after fencing was stolen from Campbell Cemetery.

Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the theft complaint at Campbell Cemetery on Campbell Cemetery Road at Woodbine on August 19, where it was discovered that 150 feet of black, painted chain-link fence, including top rails, seven posts and two 10-foot gates and hardware were taken.

On Tuesday, August 22, an investigation into the theft by Sheriff Mike Smith revealed the location of the stolen property to be at the home of Jason Taylor at Perkins Street in the Whitley County portion of Woodbine. Upon making contact, a man ran into a detached garage and locked himself inside.

As deputies were working on getting a search warrant, Jason Taylor crawled out of the garage through a hole in its side and fled into the home, where he barricaded himself and a female, Angela Taylor, inside.

Once a Whitley County search warrant was issued after Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene, the stolen property was found on a utility trailer behind the home.

Knox Sheriff Mike Smith and Whitley Sheriff Bill Elliotte and their deputies were able to enter the residence after several hours.

Angela Taylor, 34 of Woodbine, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, menacing, and hindering prosecution or apprehension-second degree. Approximately one hour later, Jason W. Taylor, 39 of Woodbine, was located hiding inside a wall inside the home. He was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, menacing, and fleeing or evading police-second degree.

Both Jason and Angela Taylor were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center. Jason Taylor is held on a $2,500 cash bond, and Angela Taylor is held on a $1,500 cash bond. Both are set to appear in Knox District Court on October 3.

Laurel County K-9 Officer and London PD K-9 Officers also responded and assisted at the residence.

The investigation is continuing by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
